The Supreme Court Tuesday stayed the implementation of controversial new farm laws till further orders and decided to set up a 4-member committee to resolve the impasse over them between the Centre and farmers' unions protesting at Delhi borders. A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justice AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said that it will pass an order to this effect. The top court stayed the implementation of the three laws -- the Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act -- against which several petitions have been filed challenging their constitutional validity. The bench which read out four names of members of the committee said that it will look into the farmers' grievances on the issue. The fou.....

Washington: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday the House will proceed with legislation to impeach President Donald Trump as she pushes the vice president and Cabinet to invoke constitutional authority to force him out, warning that Trump is a threat to democracy after the deadly assault on the Capitol. Pelosi made the announcement in a letter to colleagues, saying the House will first vote to push Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the powers of the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. After 24 hours, she said, the House would proceed with legislation on impeachment. Trump could become the only president to be impeached twice. "In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both," she said, and added: "The horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is i.....
More than $250 million of road safety upgrades will be rolled out across approximately 4,000 kilometres of regional Western Australian roads this financial year, reducing the risk of run-off-road crashes and supporting local jobs. Funded through the Regional Road Safety Program, low cost treatments such as sealing existing unsealed road shoulders and installing audible edge or centre lines to warn drivers who veer over the white line, will be delivered across the State. The Regional Road Safety Program is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Western Australian Governments, with an initial $100 million of works underway already, and another $158 million allocated to be spent by the end of this financial year. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Australian Government had allocated billions of doll.....
The United States on Thursday announced that it will modify the selection process for H-1B visa, giving priority to salary and skills instead of the current lottery procedures. The final rule to be published in the federal register on January 8, officials said, is aimed to protect the economic interests of US workers and better ensure the most highly skilled foreign workers benefit from the temporary employment programme. The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. The technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China. Modifying the H-1B cap selection process will incentivise employers to offer higher salaries, and/or petition for higher-skilled positions, and establish a more certain path for bus.....
In an extraordinary rebuke of President Donald Trump, all 10 living former secretaries of defense have cautioned against any move to involve the military in pursuing claims of election fraud, arguing that it would take the country into dangerous, unlawful and unconstitutional territory. The 10 men, both Democrats and Republicans, signed on to an opinion article published in The Washington Post on Sunday that implicitly questioned Trump's willingness to follow his Constitutional duty to peacefully relinquish power on January 20. Following the November 3 election and subsequent recounts in some states, as well as unsuccessful court challenges, the outcome is clear, they wrote, while not specifying Trump in the article. The time for questioning the results has passed; the time for the formal counting of the electoral college votes, as prescribed in the Constitution and statute, has.....
Thousands more Western Australians will be able to achieve the dream of home ownership next year with the McGowan Labor Government approving a $243.5 million increase in Keystart's borrowing limit for 2021-22. This increase brings Keystart's total gross borrowing limit to $5.7 billion, and will enable Keystart to take on an estimated 2,100 new loans in 2021-2022. The approval of these additional borrowings takes the total funding for Keystart to $2.4 billion since March 2017. The temporary increase to Keystart's income limits for borrowers, increased by $15,000 for singles and couples, and by $20,000 for families, will be reviewed in June 2021. Keystart was established in 1989 and is nationally recognised as the most successful scheme of its kind. It has helped more than 110,000 Western Australians achieve the dream of home ownership since its inception. "The McGowan Labor.....
The last-minute trade deal between the UK and the European Union means businesses will be spared new tariffs and border disruption at the start of the new year - an economic shock that would have compounded the employment and financial troubles inflicted by the pandemic. News of the agreement Thursday brought sighs of relief from the offices of corporate bosses and politicians, as well as from consumers anticipating produce shortages and transport workers facing the potential of long backups at border crossings. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey recently warned that a failure to secure a U.K.-E.U. trade deal would have a greater long-term impact on the British economy than the long-term impact of the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to the country's deepest recession in more than three centuries. The deal still must win approval from the British and EU parliaments. Here'.....

Canberra: The Australian Government is continuing to provide unprecedented support for the aviation industry, with $66 million in grants under the Regional Airports Screening Infrastructure (RASI) grant program announced for eligible regional airports across Australia. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the funding would allow those airports to carry out necessary infrastructure works in preparation for increased passengers as more air services take flight. “The aviation industry was one of the first and hardest-hit industries during COVID-19 and as we look to get even more planes back in the sky, we are continuing to support regional airports to ensure they bounce back strongly and can continue to connect our regions,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. “This critical grant funding will reduce the .....
